My mom took me to an event that she called one web day, in Cincinnati. I got to miss school for it! I enjoyed it a lot. This is what the basis of it is.
Representatives from all of the presidential candidates (including independent)are invited. Each of the candidates reps. will get 15 mins. to talk about their tech. policy. Then 15 mins. to be asked questions about their tech policy. We Knew Ralph Nader would not show.
Obama has the goal, to give every one power over their Internet, to put information on computers instead of paper in order to save paper and money, to use the Internet to bring competitiveness against other countries that will help America “step up it’s game”, to bring broad band to all Americans, to stop internet providers from restricting web site access to users
Obama realizes that tech. is a big part of the future and has many tech. advisers. On the flip side of that McCain (who did not have a representative although he was invited to have one) as far as I can see, did not have more than one tech. adviser.
During the end I got to ask a question: I know that some schools don't have computers and personally I Know someone who does not have a computer at home. How will your campaign fix this? [Gigi Sohn reply:] While I will not say that we will give computers directly to schools there is a program called E-rate that gives schools a discount on computers so all schools have to do is tap in to it.
You might have noticed that she did not answer the second part of my question. And how E-rate only gives computers a discount of who knows how much. All I will say is that it is that it's kinda sketchy if you ask me.
